1. Did you know that there is an FAA approved runway in the middle of the lake? In

winter when the river freezes over, it is possible for some pilots to land their planes on it.

2. This state has the world record of fastest winds ever recorded by man

on Earth that wasn't part of a tornado or cyclone. At 231 mph (371.8 km/h)

this is greater than a Scale 4 tornado and Stage 5 hurricane.

3. Although the first library in the United States was in Pennsylvania this state is home

to the first free (supported by taxes) public library which has been open since 1833.

4. Believe it or not the first summer resort was actually established in this state in 1763.

5. Believe it or not, this state is home of the first ever American to go into space.

6. This state is also home to the longest wooden covered bridge in the United States at 460 ft (140 m).

7. Although it currently uses a different constitution, this state was the first colony to have a constitution as well as the first to declare the independence from Great Britain.

8. This state is home to the tallest peak located in the North East of the United States.

9. Believe it or not this state is where the first potato planted in the United States (1719).
